Remote ID and Security Drones

What FAA Remote ID means for security operators, and how detection teams use Remote ID data.

What Remote ID is

Remote ID is the FAA requirement for most drones to broadcast identification and location information during flight, much like a digital licence plate. Security drones flown commercially must comply.

For your provider

Ask whether the provider’s aircraft broadcast Remote ID or use an approved broadcast module, and whether any of their flights rely on an FAA-recognised identification area exception.

For detection

Remote ID receivers let security teams see compliant drones nearby and often the take-off or pilot location. Non-compliant drones may need RF or radar detection to spot.

Privacy

Remote ID data is limited and intended for safety and security. Use it as part of an incident record and share it with law enforcement where appropriate.
