Drone photo illustrating: Checking Drone Security Licences, Waivers and Insurance

Checking Drone Security Licences, Waivers and Insurance

A short checklist for confirming a provider is legal and covered before they fly over your site.

Pilot certificates

Ask for the Part 107 remote pilot certificate of each pilot who will fly your site, and confirm recurrent training is current.

Waivers and exemptions

If the work needs BVLOS, flights over people beyond the standard categories, or remote operations from a monitoring centre, ask for a copy of the relevant waiver or exemption and check it covers your location and aircraft.

Security licensing

Where your state licenses security or patrol companies, ask for the licence number and check it on the state board website.

Insurance

Ask for certificates showing aviation liability, general liability and, where relevant, professional and cyber cover. Ask to be named as an additional insured for the contract.
